Poolburn, 21 to 23 March 2009

21 March 2009
262863kms. 11:37. After doing chores for the last couple of days around home and the section (and taking Maggie in to Alexandra to have the windscreen measured for replacement) we have decided to go and enjoy the last couple of days of the holiday at Poolburn. It's sunny/cloudy and 16.5⁰C and we really feel like having a couple of really relaxing days fishing and not driving anywhere. Did some shopping in Alex and also put 40L of diesel in (262878kms). Got to Poolburn about 14:30 and it's blowing a very cold, brisk southerly and only 8.5⁰C! Sat and read and played cards. Got very cold once sun dropped, and by the time we went to bed at just after 22:00 (after sea food chowder for tea) it was only 2⁰C.

22 March 2009
Up at 06:00 and minus 1.7⁰C! Brrr, and thank heaven for gas heating - needed it last night too! Once it was daylight it got a bit cloudy and a slight breeze. Fished all day - no joy - and wind didn't drop off 'til around 16:00. So inside, read, played cards, more seafood chowder for tea. Another cold night, clear so will be frosty in the morning.

23 March 2009
Up at 07:39, another minus 1.5⁰C frost, but clear, except for fog in valleys all around us. The fog moved in closer for a while, but then just after sun rose over hills, the fog lifted and absolutely stunning. Of all the places we've been to, this is definitely one of our favs - no sandflies, no-one else around (well, there are people around, just no close enough to even hear them) and just absolutely beautiful scenery. Marielle went fishing while Mike cooked breakfast, and then we decided to leave the dishes 'til later as it was so fishable! Well, that didn't happen, as Marielle hooked herself in the finger and we couldn't get hook out so it was a case of pack up, head to the doctor's. BUGGER, BUGGER AND BUGGER again - one of the most perfect mornings and the forecast is for it to be like this all day, and we have to leave! Arrived doctor 11:38, home and Maggie all cleaned up by 13:00. 263009kms.
